Guarantee your choice of schools on Select-A-School Day
Parents looking to get a jump start on enrolling their pre-kindergarten and eighth-grade students for the 2009-2010 school year should plan to attend the first Dayton Public Schools Select-A-School Day, from noon to 4 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Stivers School for the Arts, 1313 E. Fifth St.
At the event, representatives from all district preK-8 and high schools will spotlight their buildings with colorful displays, as educators will be on hand to answer questions. Parents of younger children (ages 3, 4 and 5) can obtain information about a variety of preschool opportunities, as well. Information will be available for parents who wish to transfer to their child to a neighborhood school or to the same school as a sibling.
For those who have already decided on a school, registrars from the Student Assignment Office will be available to take applications. Students registered at Select-A-School Day are guaranteed placement in one of their top three school selections.
This is the first year the district has combined its annual high school and kindergarten selection events, held separately in previous years.
“We’re excited to hold this event now, to give our parents an early window into picking the perfect school that best suits the needs of their children,” said Rebecca Lowry, associate superintendent, curriculum and instruction.
Parents or guardians are asked to bring the following documents to register their children: proof of age, immunization records, proof of address (utility bill or lease agreement, dated within 60 days), the parent’s photo ID with signature, and custody documentation (if applicable)
The event also will feature refreshments and fun activities for youth. For more information, call the DPS Student Assignment Office at 542-5555.
