Taste of Dayton Public Schools on Nov. 14

District parents, students, staff and community members are invited to sample vendors’ products and tell Dayton Public Schools what they think school lunches should include.  The opportunity comes once a year at the Taste of Dayton Public Schools extravaganza, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ron Harper Gymnasium at Kiser PK-8 School, 1401 Leo St.

All food items exhibited at the event provide healthy choices for students by meeting at least two of the following criteria: low/reduced-fat, zero trans fat, whole grain or organic.

“We are offering parents, students, staff and the community the opportunity to collaborate and have a voice in sampling and evaluating items that might possibly be placed on our school menus,” DPS Director of Nutrition Services Stephen Grundy said.

“Current issues relating to improving wellness, child obesity, calorie and fat consumption, and wholesome good products have made it increasingly difficult to find and select food products that parents approve and that children will eat daily.”

The theme of the event is “Taste of Dayton Public Schools: Healthy Choices, Healthy Minds.”  Activities will include family fun and door prizes.

The annual event is part of the district’s student wellness program.
