Student Selection Criteria

Students who will be entering grades 9, 10 or 11 in the next school year are eligible for admittance to the David H. Ponitz Career Technology Center based upon the following criteria:

  1. A completed application packet
  2. Academic performance (Grade Point Average, Ohio Achievement Test Scores)
  3. Attendance Record
  4. Discipline Record
  5. Career Interest
  6. Reading and Math assessment (Day of Interview)

General Admittance Guidelines

To qualify as a 9th grader you should have:

  1. Good attendance
  2. Good behavior
  3. Average or better grades

To qualify as a 10th grader you should have:

  1. Good attendance and behavior
  2. A minimum of a 2.0 grade point average
  3. Earned 5 high school credits (Including: Algebra I, English 9, Physical Science, US History, PE)

Admissions Process

The admissions process involves a review of student records, application materials, Parent Student
interview and a reading and math assessment. Application to the PCTC requires the following steps:

  1. Complete Application
  2. Enclose Student Transcripts from your current school (If you are a Dayton Public School
  3. student these records can be obtained by Ponitz Career Technology Center staff.)
  4. Submit all application materials to Barbara Jones, Data Tech Ponitz Career Technology
  5. Center at the following address: 741 Washington St., Dayton, OH 45402
  6. Attend a personal interview with parent/guardian (Interviews will be scheduled by the
  7. Ponitz Career Technology Center staff.)

Document Checklist:

A COMPLETED APPLICATION PACKET SHOULD INCLUDE:

  • An Application for Admission
  • Student Transcript of academic performance, attendance and behavior
  • OAT Scores
  • Two Completed Recommendation Forms
