Uniforms, once associated with private and parochial schools, are commonplace on Dayton Public Schools campuses.
The concept has become popular with parents and community members. Educators cite a number of reasons. Eliminating peer pressure to wear the latest fashions ranks at the top. Uniforms, according to some principals, help students judge others for who they are, not what they wear. Students are free to focus on academics, and they develop a stronger identity with their schools. The purchase of uniforms for an entire school year often costs less than a single pair of designer athletic shoes.
