Egg Industry Copies DPS Coloring Recipe

Its small but powerful and packed with protein. For Dayton Public Schools students, eating boiled eggs means getting a great start to their day with breakfast served in DPS school cafeterias. But this week, Dayton’s boiled eggs will be more, “colorful”,  according to DPS nutrition services director, Cathie DeFehr. And the artistry has caught the eye of the American Egg Board.

“A representative from the American Egg Board was visiting our nutrition services department last year and loved the way we color our eggs for spring observance. We shared our recipe and, Voila! We are now featured in its industry publication,” said DeFehr.

The AEB is a nationally recognized promoter of the egg industry. The non-profit, Chicago based group is charged with the marketing of eggs. Considered the “voice” of egg producers, it is best known for the slogan, “The Incredible, Edible Egg”.

DPS’ inclusion in the AEB publication is an indication of the creative ways our nutrition services department encourages students to eat healthy foods.

Wednesday and Thursday of this week, DPS will display it's brightly colored, boiled eggs in cafeterias. The district will be closed Good Friday (3/30) and the next week (4/2) for spring break.
