Two resolutions adopted by the Dayton Board of Education at the May 19 meeting will increase financial transparency and add value to the district’s already very strong financial, managerial and operational controls.

Dayton Public Schools is among the first Ohio school districts to join Ohio’s Online Checkbook initiative (www.OhioCheckbook.com), providing greater access to the district’s annual financial records, which will be posted to the site sometime during the summer.

Ohio’s Online Checkbook initiative has been credited for improving the state’s transparency ranking from the bottom in the nation to the No. 1 position in 2015 with a perfect score of 100 points from the United States Public Interest Research Group. More than $408 billion in spending over the past seven years has been made available for public review online.

Additionally, the board established the position of internal auditor to enhance the district’s already fiscally responsible practices.
