This week we are spotlighting Chiquith “Shae” Smith, a School Safety Court Liaison!
Shae has been in this position for two years but has been with the district for 14 years. In her current role, she supervises the daily duties and responsibilities of nine SROs in seven buildings. She is also responsible for ensuring the district is compliant with all state-mandated safety drills, documentation requirements, and Emergency Operations Plans.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19, she said it has caused many DPS departments to work together to help students get what they need to succeed and also showed that the district can adapt and overcome any obstacle.
“It’s very difficult to choose one thing that I enjoy most about my job, because the truth is I really love what I do, but if I had to narrow it down, I would have to say my absolute favorite would be our kids,” Shae said. “I enjoy being one of the people they look forward to seeing in the morning. I enjoy being an adult they know they can rely on and trust.
Shae said she is proud to work at DPS because the employees do their best each day to do what is right for students.
“I believe in our students, and I believe in this district,” she said.
