This week we are spotlighting Mound Street Academy Principal Jim Grimsley!

Principal Grimsley joined the district last year when DPS partnered with Mound Street Academy to continue its program and to better serve DPS students who need the services Mound Street provides.

He said Mound Street’s goal is to remove any obstacles that students may face toward graduating. His day-to-day duties revolve primarily around that goal, and include working with teachers and staff to provide the best instruction and customer service possible to students. He also communicates with students, parents and other stakeholders to ensure they are doing everything possible to help students succeed, and works to partner with outside agencies to provide opportunities to students that will benefit them in and out of the classroom.

“The thing that I enjoy most about my job is working with the students,” Grimsley said. “It is very gratifying to see a student who has experienced difficulties in life or in the classroom succeed.”

While students have been learning virtually, Principal Grimsley has been able to connect with them through Zoom and over the phone. However, he is looking forward to having face-to-face interactions with students once again when they return in March.

He would also like to thank all DPS employees for welcoming Mound Street students and staff to the district!
