Dayton high school for the arts once again among best in America

Stivers School for the Arts ranks among America’s best public high schools, in both Ohio and the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report in a study released May 12, 2015.

Stivers earned a silver medal, ranking 73rd statewide (out of 157 HS ranked), and 1,451 nationally (out of 2,527 ranked).

Principal Erin Dooley is proud of her school’s repeat performance in earning national accolades.

“The arts are flourishing, our Advanced Placement program is growing and improving, and we are seeing the results in our performance,” Dooley said. “This recognition only further fuels our desire to push our achievements to the next level.”

This is the seventh year the study has been conducted and the fourth year Stivers has been recognized. The arts high school earned a bronze medal in 2009 and silver medals in 2010, 2012, and 2014.  Stivers is one of only three Montgomery County high schools to earn a silver medal this year, and is among the top two highest state rankings for schools in this county. Dayton Early College Academy, a Dayton Public Schools-sponsored charter school, was awarded a bronze medal.

Criteria used to judge schools include the degree to which they serve all students across different ability levels, academic performance as measured by state achievement tests, and college preparedness as measured through Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses.

The report was produced by U.S. News & World Report in collaboration with the Washington, D.C.-based American Institutes for Research (AIR), which implemented the rankings methodology.
