Updated Mask Guidelines — March 23, 2022

Alexandra KincaidNews

The CDC and Public Health Department have confirmed that COVID cases are at an all-time low and that it is safe to alter various COVID protocols that have been in place for the past several months.

The Dayton Public Schools has been closely monitoring cases both within the school setting and within the DPS zip codes that our schools serve.  Case numbers are very low right now.

Beginning March 28th, the district will move from “masks mandated” to “masks strongly recommended”  for staff, students, and all visitors to DPS buildings.  Please understand that if COVID cases increase within the schools or the county moves back to seeing higher case numbers, masks will be mandated again.

All students and school personnel are strongly encouraged to continue to wear masks.  Those who choose to continue wearing masks, as well as those who choose not to wear a mask, will be expected to respect the choice of others.  The district will not tolerate any type of bullying or intimidation as it relates to a person’s choice to mask or not.

Please carefully consider your choice.  The district will continue to closely monitor COVID cases as well as the cases within the DPS zip codes.   Please contact the district with your questions about the change in the mask requirements at 937-542-3098 or email dpsmasks@daytonpublic.com.
