Nearly 300 students from six DPS high schools will attend a series of after-school sessions this month, culminating with a daylong work shop on April 16, to help them achieve college-worthy scores on the ACT (American College Testing) readiness assessment.

Dayton Public Schools, working with MasteryPrep, has identified students in each of the district’s six high schools who are planning to attend college and need a boost on their ACT score. To participate, students committed to attend six 2.5-hour after-school sessions April 7 through 15 at each of their six high schools. The April 16 ACT Boot Camp will be held at each DPS high school during school hours.

The goal is to move student scores by up to three ACT composite points-a significant improvement that can mean the difference between college acceptance and disappointment, and likewise for scholarship opportunities.

Students will learn about time management (including pacing), how the test is scored, and how to prepare. Timed practice segments will be given throughout the day in the areas of English, math, reading and science. Students also will receive a refresher on test-taking skills.

The ACT Boot Camp will be held during regular school hours in the following schools: Belmont High School, David H. Ponitz CTC, Dunbar Early College High School, Meadowdale High School, Stivers School for the Arts, and Thurgood Marshall STEM High School.
