DPS Summer Camps & Programs for Students
There are many summer programs available to DPS students. Programs focus on enhancing math and literacy skills while providing fun enrichment activities. Several camps also provide regular field trips. Learn more about each program below!
Blast Off with Reading! This week-long camp will make you an Honorary Astronaut by improving your reading skills. Prepare to blast off as you read and write your way to the moon and back!
WHO: Current third-grade students
WHAT: Boost your reading skills while blasting off into space missions.
WHEN: June 26 - June 30, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
WHERE: Kiser Elementary School and the Challenger Center
WHY: To blast your way into 4th grade!
Who: Kindergarten through 7th grade students
What: To teach students about brain states and how to maintain their executive brain state through SEL activities!
Where: Bethesda Temple 3701 Salem Ave. Dayton, Oh 45406
When: June 1st through June 30th; 8 AM to 12:30 PM (Breakfast and Lunch are provided)
Why: To help increase students' resiliency and promote reading skills and academic confidence during the camp!

Who: Kindergarten through 5th grade students
What: We will focus on Reading and Math Enrichment and work on preparing our 2nd graders for the 3rd grade test!
Where: Westwood Elementary
When: June 5th through July 7th; 9 AM to 2 PM
Why: To help students learn how to prepare for problems, verbalize processes during problem-solving, and use visual representation to aid in understanding and identifying multiple strategies!

Who: Pre-K through 5th grade students
What: A 6-week program focused on reading, writing, research, and critical analysis with STEM activities such as science experiments, creating a podcast, and more!
Where: St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, College Hill Community Church, Corinthian Baptist Church
When: June 5th through July 14th; 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM
Why: To provide instruction that will promote growth in the area of literacy and math to academically struggling students.

Who: Pre-K through 8th grade students
What: Join us for Adventures in the Amazon Rainforest! This is a 6-week program that allows students to become explorers in the rainforest while focusing on STEAM activities.
Where: Ruskin Elementary; Transportation is provided.
When: June 12th through July 21st; 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM
Why: To accelerate student learning, decrease summer learning loss, and have fun learning!

What: A reading enrichment program!
Where: Louise Troy Elementary
When: June 12th through July 21st; 8 AM to 3:30 PM
Why: To help with reading retention and growth of reading skills over the summer months.

Who: Pre-selected and/or identified rising 3rd and 4th grade students
What: The camp will focus on literacy, math, STEM, and more!
Where: Roosevelt Elementary; Transportation is provided

Why: To accelerate student learning and get them excited about STEM and inventions.

Who: Rising 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students
What: A program that will offer art activities, sports, and games, STEM and robotics activities; as well as career exploration and work experiences!
Where: Thurgood Marshall STEM High School
When: June 12th through July 14th; 10 AM to 3 PM
Why: We want students to visualize their futures in college and career successes!

Who: Kindergarten through 6th grade students
What: Students will participate in structured and intentional learning as well as enrichment activities such as visual arts, yoga, and gardening!

Why: To increase student reading and math retention and skill, supporting student self-confidence, resilience, and self-regulation!

Who: Rising 8th and 9th grade students
What: Students will learn from hands-on experience in STEM programs, robotics projects, and even field trips to different events and locations throughout the city!

Why: To advance our students' knowledge during the summer and excite them about receiving their education!

Panthers taking FLIGHT! Future leaders innovating and growing healthier together.
Who: Incoming 3rd-6th grade students
What: Students will learn positive behavioral skills, work on their academic habits, increase engagement with their peers and family, and create a community of support!
Where: Kiser Elementary
When: June 5th through July 14th; 9 AM to 2:30 PM
Why: To increase student attendance, and academic performance, and see a result in decreased disciplinary actions.

Who: Incoming 11th and 12th grade students
What: The summer program will highlight some of the graduation requirements to help students prepare to graduate from a career tech program in Ohio.

Why: Students entering the final years of their CTC coursework will on the NIMS certification that is a graduation requirement substitute for vocational students.

The Challenger Learning Center offers Summer Labs for students across the community. DPS students receive a half price discount - just be sure to mention which school your student attends when you register!

- Hunt for buried treasure, fire an air cannon, and set sail on this pirate adventure!
- July 11th - NEATure Camp
- Explore the science behind campfires, tent building, and so much more!
- August 8th - Science of Art
- Add Art to STEM and you get STEAM! Mix colors, paint, and craft, all while creating some fabulous art to take home.
Depending on registrations, these will be separated by age groups. These camps will be held on Wednesdays from 1 PM to 4 PM. $12 to register.

- Grab a hammer, some power tools, and build something awesome with us!
- July 19th - Purely Pottery
- Prepare to get messy and try your hand at ceramics! Make something out of clay, pick out a glaze, and get creative.

WHAT: This is an 8-week prep course that will offer all the knowledge and skills required to pass the lifeguard certification course.

WHY: This 8-week program will help potential lifeguards understand what is required to be a certified lifeguard.

WHAT: Summer arts camp with experiences in exploring, designing, and developing. Registration is $30.

Students entering 7th, 8th and 9th grade are invited to take part in Senator Sherrod Brown’s annual FREE Construction Summer Camp to introduce them to manufacturing and building trades. Each day, students will take part in age-appropriate, hands-on construction activities. The camp will take place daily from June 26th through June 30th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

High School APEX Credit Recovery Summer School
Off-track for graduation? APEX Credit Recovery Summer School is a computer-based program designed to provide credit for a course you previously attempted unsuccessfully. A certified teacher will support you as you work through a self-paced, individualized program to monitor your progress.
