Dayton Public Schools celebrates a new beginning

The Dayton Board of Education and Superintendent Rhonda Corr invite the community to share in the district’s celebration of earning an A in value added on the 2016 state report card. DPS will “take over the square” at the corner of Third and Main streets downtown, Thursday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., to congratulate students and staff on a job well done.
Although district officials have been candid about the hard work ahead to raise student achievement, the improvement is well worth noting as it gives the district a fresh start and takes Dayton Public Schools out of academic distress.
School Board President Adil Baguirov and Superintendent Corr will share information about new district initiatives, and there will be music provided by deejay, Ron Hunter, along with performances by DPS student groups. Miss High School America Kennedy Chase, a student at Stivers School for the Arts, will also be there to take photos with the crowd.
The value added distinction on the report card is an indicator of students’ progress academically. The A grade means students’ academic growth last year well-exceeded one year’s growth.
