Hidden Hero Spotlight | Deborah Immel

Alexandra KincaidNews, Wright Brothers Elementary News

This week we are spotlighting Deborah Immel, school counselor for Wright Brothers Middle School!

Deborah has been in this position for three years. Her day-to-day duties include counseling students in academics, college and career, and social-emotional help. This can take the form of individual meetings, small group sessions or classroom lessons. Her duties also include crisis management with students and families.

She said the best part about her job is getting to work with students on a personal level.

“I learn so much about each of our Wright Brothers students when we have a one-on-one meeting or small group meetings,” she said. “I also love watching our students grow. It will never stop amazing me when I see a student use a strategy or skill we have practiced together.”

Although COVID-19 has pushed meetings online, she has continued to find ways to connect with students in the afterschool program and to provide resources to families through the student support team.

Her nominators commented that she is a crucial member of the Wright Brothers team and she is always available to support staff and students. In addition, she played a large role in helping 8th-grade students complete their College Promise applications this year, which gives students the opportunity to have the first two years of higher education funded!

Thank you for your dedication to helping students succeed!
