Twelve students receive $6,000 in scholarships
Twelve new graduates of Dayton Public Schools were recognized for academic excellence at a luncheon and awards ceremony June 6, as part of the 22nd annual Dayton Public Schools Scholarship Golf Classic at the Miami Valley Golf Club.
Following an 18-hole golf tournament, each student was presented with a $500 scholarship for his or her school of choice and a laptop computer from Cincinnati Bell Technology Solutions.
Scholarships were awarded based on grade-point average, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and a personal essay. The 12 scholarship winners are: Belmont — Dylan Miller, Makenna Philip; Dunbar — Coria Richardson; Meadowdale — Jasmyne Jones, Nottia Ward; Ponitz CTC — Sha’Tori Boggs, Alana Demmons; Stivers —Nyanna Johnson, Anthony Long II, Marisa Meeks; and Thurgood Marshall — Kamron Hughes, Banyaamin Muhammed.
The Scholarship Golf Classic has raised more than $200,000 for exceptional Dayton Public Schools graduates over the past two decades. Money is raised through company sponsorships and individual player fees. This year’s participating teams were: Adolescence Oasis; Applegate; Bricker and Eckler; CDO Technologies; CDW-G; Cincinnati Bell Technology Solutions; CDO Technologies; Cintas Corp.; ComDoc, Inc.; Coolidge Wall Co., L.P.A.; Hollingsworth and Washington; Levin Porter Assoc.; LWC, Inc.; McGohan Brabender; McGraw-Hill Education; OAPSE; Parallel Employment Group; Roby’s Janitorial Supply; Shook, Inc.; Waibel Energy Systems; W.R. Hackett, Inc.; and teams Carr, Fowler, Mims, and Wine.
