Superintendent Search
The Board of Education voted unanimously to select Dr. David Lawrence as the Dayton Public School District’s next Superintendent at its Tuesday, February 20, 2024 Business Meeting.
Dr. Lawrence has been serving as Interim Superintendent since July. He has nearly 30 years of experience in public education, having served in many roles in both suburban and urban Districts throughout his career.
Dr. Lawrence was born and raised in Dayton and is a 1984 graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

The Dayton Public Schools Board of Education remains committed to a transparent and inclusive process. Parents, staff, students, and community members are invited to take part in panel interviews of each candidate.
There are three ways that the Dayton community can participate:
- Submissions for nominations or self-nominations for potential participation on interview panels are now closed.
- Submissions of potential interview questions for the interview panels to consider asking the finalist candidates are now closed.
- View the live-streamed and recorded finalist interviews with students and parents and provide feedback to the Board of Education. The date of the finalist interviews has not been scheduled yet, but are anticipated to be in early February.
Members of the Dayton community, including staff, teachers, and parents, may nominate themselves or someone else to participate on an interview panel. If you are selected for an interview panel, you must be available to participate in two virtual trainings in mid January. The DPS Board, in collaboration with the Alma Advisory Group, will ensure that all panels have a diverse representation of the Dayton community.
After watching the interviews on Monday, February 5th and Tuesday, February 6th, the Alma Group invites the community to respond to this Community Feedback Survey about candidates.

- The Alma Advisory Group provided a presentation to the Board of Education on 12/12/23. The presentation detailed the results of the community meetings and community survey.

The Alma Advisory Group will lead the District's Superintendent Search Process. The shared goal and purpose of the Dayton Board of Education and the Alma Advisory Group is to recruit, screen, and select the next Superintendent of the Dayton Public Schools.
This will be done through a transparent and accessible Superintendent Search Process, guided by the input and needs of the greater Dayton community, and designed to mitigate bias every step of the way.
