Dayton Public Schools Creating District-Wide School Travel Plan

catapultNews

Please Take Parent Survey as Part of Plan Development

THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PARENT SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED! THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING!

Dear DPS Families,

As you may know, the district created School Travel Plans for five elementary schools through Ohio’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program in 2008. The District has now been selected by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to create a district-wide school travel plan for all 21 K-8 schools in the district.

We need your help. As part of the update, we’re asking parents to complete a Parent Survey about how students in Dayton Public Schools travel to and from school. We request that you take the survey by Wednesday, January 25.

You can access the survey by clicking on this link (or copying and pasting the link into your web browser). The survey is available in English and Spanish (y en Español).

The district-wide School Travel Plan will be completed in 2017. Once complete, the DPS SRTS Team will apply to ODOT for funding to implement recommendations in the plan.

What is the Safe Routes to School program?
The goals of the Safe Routes to School program are to:

  1. Improve the environment around the school to encourage walking and bicycling to and from school
  2. Expand the school’s curriculum and activities to include safety and education programs that will teach our children pedestrian and bicycling safety
  3. Hold events to encourage walking and bicycling.
