ABOUT READ ACROSS AMERICA: The National Education Association captured the concept of an annual reading awareness program in 1997 by honoring the birthday of Dr. Seuss in a manner that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading. The program started a movement to motivate and grow student achievement in cities and towns across the United States and around the world that we continue to observe today.
