Dayton Public Schools state audit for fiscal year 2016 shows the district’s ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility. The district received an unmodified opinion from the Ohio Auditor of State, meaning DPS financial statements were presented fairly in all material respects. The audit also shows significant improvement in reporting from year to year.
“We could not be happier with the auditor’s positive opinion of our finances,” said DPS Treasurer Hiwot Abraha. “It shows our staff’s hard work to carefully report and manage taxpayers’ money.”
The audit contained only one infraction, down from six the previous year. All findings from the previous year were corrected and new procedures were implemented to ensure they do not happen again. The finding for recovery on the FY16 report concerns the handling of an advanced payment for a school field trip.
“We considered the remaining balance from a field trip this year, as a pre-payment for the same trip already planned for the next school year,” said Abraha. “The money is accounted for.”
The Office of the Treasurer is responsible for the fiscal accountability of the Dayton Public Schools.
