Board members pleased with district’s momentum

The Dayton Board of Education, in a 6-0 vote, approved a new three-year contract for Superintendent Rhonda Corr. The new agreement takes effect August 1, 2017.
“We are pleased with the momentum of the district under Ms. Corr’s leadership,” said Robert Walker, board president. “We want to show our commitment in her to move the district forward.”
Supt. Corr took the helm at DPS July 1, 2016 with a one-year contract. She came to Dayton having served as area superintendent in Indianapolis and Chicago. As Chicago Public Schools Chief of Schools (Area Superintendent) she oversaw nearly 30,000 students in 36 schools and led them to a high level of academic growth, as well as substantial gains in academic attainment. Prior to that, she served as the founding principal of the International Newcomers Academy with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, providing support for immigrant and refugee children and families.
“We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we also have a lot of good people,” said Superintendent Corr. “I am honored to be here. I, and my team, will continue to work hard, very diligently, very collaboratively with the community and with the parents.”
