Hidden Hero Spotlight | Tiwona Branham

Alexandra KincaidNews, Thurgood Marshall News

This week we are spotlighting Tiwona Branham, Intervention Specialist at Thurgood Marshall STEM High School.

Ms. Branham has been with the district for five years and has also coached Cross Country and Track & Field. She also serves as the senior advisor for the class of 2021 and the co-advisor for the Move Forward Thurgood Marshall STEM High School NAACP Chapter.

She said her mission is to empower students with as much knowledge as possible and teach them to become lifelong learners. She said she wants all students to succeed and be proud of who they are.

“The highlight of my day is when I see my students,” she said. “I realize that they depend on me for instruction and guidance as much as I depend on them to brighten my day with their enthusiasm for learning.”

She said teaching virtually helped her to grow as a teacher because she had to utilize new strategies to engage students. However, she is thankful to have students back in the classroom to teach in person again.

Her nominator said Ms. Branham always has an upbeat, positive attitude and makes all who enter the building feel welcomed and valued. In addition, she is an excellent teacher and colleague and goes above and beyond to help students.

Thank you for all you do to help students succeed!
