Fans cheered for mathletes in action

It was a typical late fall morning at Belmont High School; cheering crowds of parents and supporters watched as students competed head to head on (wait for it) rapid-fire math word problems with timed responses. And it all played out to a packed house.

DPS students in grades four through eight prepared for and competed in three competitions-Battle of the Brains (4-6); Team Challenge (4-8); a contest requiring collaboration to solve problems; and Design Challenge (7-8) a STEM-based problem-solving project for teams. Based on combined scores, the winners were Wright Brothers PreK-8 School and Stivers School for the Arts.
