August 15 routes designed to help eliminate snags on opening day

Because learning new routes and meeting parents can slow drivers down on opening day, DPS is inviting parents to meet their children’s drivers Aug. 15. Drivers, who are scheduled to make a dry run of their routes without students onboard, will make the assigned stops and talk with any parents who are waiting for them during the practice run.

“We know that learning new routes and meeting parents can delay drivers. We have mailed letters to parents with route and bus stop information and encourage them to meet our drivers during this transportation open house,” Superintendent Rhonda Corr said. “We want to make sure we are delivering the best customer service to our families and our students. The school day for so many students begins with the bus driver-the first smiling face they see every day.”

If buses are late on Aug. 15, parents should call our Transportation Department at 542-4010 or our DPS Information Line at 542-3010. We are committed to providing efficient, effective and safe transportation to all eligible students.

Dayton Public Schools bus drivers will transport approximately 10,530 students to school on 152 scheduled routes when the 2016-17 school year begins Aug. 16.

Drivers will conclude their day on Aug. 15 with a cookout at 4 p.m. at Jackson Center, 329 Abbey Ave., with Superintendent Rhonda Corr joining other DPS staff to grill and serve during the special back-to-school event.
